I have to say this has been the most useful so far of my resolutions.
Ever since I began doing yoga last year, I have found a few moments of deep breathing has been very useful to regain composure or calm (I have of course, not kept up with the yoga, hence resolution #5, but that’s for another post). It’s funny but since I made the conscious decision with my resolutions to focus on breathing, I have begun doing it unconsciously.
Even now, as I ponder what to write, I find myself pausing to breathe deeply and compose my thoughts. This has to be the simplest of calming techniques but it is one that eludes so many of us. I have been trying to convince my sister to take up this practice (are you reading sis?) but in a busy life with four kids I can understand how it is hard to remember to just stop for a moment. What I do know is that when I do make just a minute for this, it makes all the difference.
I plan to explore breathing techniques more over this year. I’m going to check out a breathing workshop at a local spiritual centre as well as look into the idea of walking labyrinths.
– I think perhaps this blog may be turning into a bit of what my dad would have called a ‘hippy-dippy’ rant but I firmly believe that when it comes to getting through motherhood and all that comes with it… go with whatever works and this seems to bw workign, so I’ll run with it! –
