Belated Mother’s Day Musings

I had intended to spend a little time musing about motherhood here on the blog yesterday but, in the end, I was too busy being both a mother and a daughter to get to it.

Today I’ve been reading some of the mommy bloggers I admire, hoping for some inspiration. I freely admit to some rather unprofessional, writerly jealously when I see how eloquently some of them can write about motherhood. The prose is not flowing for me lately. I’m not eloquent, I’m just tired. A three week mother-in-law visit capped off by a mad dash to my mother’s house (2.5 hours away) and the groceries waiting to be done when I arrived home left little time for anything else.

When I began writing I was feeling a little guilty I hadn’t done the writerly thing and posted some wise inspirational words but instead I’ve decided to let myself off the hook. You see, it was mother’s day and I was mothering. I spent the day caring for my kids and appreciating my own mother. I made sure they were all fed and loved. Mother’s day is about mothering and that’s what I did. It started with smiles and hugs from my kids and ended the same way.

I also got a pretty amazing mother’s day gift from The Husband. He had a quilt handmade for me using pictures of the kids and I couldn’t love it more. It has been a rough years but all in all, it was a pretty good day.
