Well… I gave myself a day to let this whole thing sink in. I’m still overwhelmed but kind of excited. I feel like this an opportunity to make some positive change.
So, on to the diet. Well, maybe diet is not the right word. That word has some pretty negative connotations. This is not something I just have to ‘get through,’ I want this to be a life long change. I’m not sure what the word is (any suggestions?) but I have made some decisions. These aren’t rocket science but according to everyone from the Canadian Cancer Society to the World Health Organization, they will have a big impact.
- I am going to limit red meat to no more than two meals a week. Red meat seems to be a real killer when it comes to cancer growth. It is high in saturated fat, which is linked to higher rates of cancer.
- I will serve at least one, if not two, vegetarian meals per week.
- I will keep the fruit bowl stocked and encourage not only the kids, but myself, to snack from it.
- I will limit processed and prepared foods (I already do this most of the time but it’s a good reminder).
It’s a small start, and I am open to any and all suggestions, but it is a start. I am going to hit the books this week to see what else I can do and tomorrow I’m heading to the grocery store. I’ll post my adventures.
